Success stories

SCHOOL POULTRY PROJECT

Good Neighbors Kenya has been providing feeding program for all school going children in our cooperate schools both sponsored and non-sponsored. We provided variety of food materials when the program started in the early 2000 but when the number of children grew bigger we narrowed down to only two types of food stuff, i.e maize, beans and rice. Growing children need more proteins for their body growth, that's when a suggestion was made by teachers that we add more value to the food we are providing in schools.
Two schools, Meguarra and Romosha primary schools benefited with support of poultry farming in 2017 November. This is a continuous program to be sustained by the schools for future benefit of the children.
Good Neighbors constructed recommended temporary structures for chicken cages in the two schools, provided chicken feeds for all stages (chick mash, growers and layers mash) which will last for one and a half years and payment of caretaker.
Good Neighbors Meguarra project took charge of the project for six months after which we left it for the school to sustain it.
Apart from cooking the eggs, the schools have been selling and purchasing vegetables to supplement school feeding program.
In 2019 they have plans to sell all chicken (because egg production is becoming low) and purchase small chicks to keep the program moving.
